: else down there...? How many times did you stay there?
We stayed at the Cozumel Caribe in 1982. We really loved it, although by today's standards it was a dump. I often wonder if it is still there under a different name? We still have the receipt from that trip. It cost us $249/person for a week INCLUDING THE FLIGHT!!!
According to the calclulator at http://cpi.memphiscapital.com/Index.cfm that $249 in 1982 is worth about $537.97 today. I sure wish I could find a flight and decent hotel to/for Cancun for $537.97/person for a week.
We've only been back to Cozumel a couple times since then, and we never returned to that hotel.
Caribe International ... today it's a dump, but in 1985 it was very nice, and we had a great time. Apple vacations, airfare, hotel and transfers, $299.00 per person for a week of fun in the sun! We didn't go back to that hotel, but we walked through it a few years ago ... yikes, what a difference!
There were 90 in our group from the company I worked for. What a party! We stayed there 5 or 6 times before moving on to the Fiesta Americana Condesa.
First trip in 1997 was to the Royal Mayan in Cancun, and we have returned five more times since then, (and this year will be six). Beachfront ground level, just can't mess with perfection!

We booked a standard room at Kin-Ha, strictly from the descriptions in the "Go Go Tours" brochure. When we arrived, they gave us the ol' "Cancun Shuffle" and told us we were supposed to arrive a day earlier. As a result, our room was rented to someone else, but they offered us a "junior suite" at the Pok-ta-Pok condos (located off the "fragrant" lagoon).
After one night there, I went back to the desk agent & explained it was our honeymoon (a belated one, but it really was) and that my wife was not happy. He seemed to understand and, one day later, moved us into a *real* suite (oceanfront, to boot) at Kin-Ha for the remainder of our stay.
I remember standing on the balcony at night, looking at the lights up and down the coast and across to Isla Mujeres. Kin-Ha was located on a great stretch of beach and had the perfect pool for a weak/non swimmer like me (no deeper than 5').
We never returned to Kin-Ha. The last I heard, it was rebuilt to "Ambiance Villas". Took us 4 more years to save up the money to return to Cancun.

Bandman, it's now known as Club Cozumel Caribe (has been for the 13 years I've been going down) and STILL looks like a dump from the outside. For years, I thought it looked like an abandoned apartment building.
I recently read, however, that they have renovated their rooms and it looks quite nice from their Web site.

we were actually booked at El Presidente, but they put us in Kin-Ha. We only stayed there once, then the next year we got our room at El Presidente.
...our first stay was at Hotel Akumal Caribe. Had the perfect room: ground floor, bay end of the building. Loved that there were only 18 units in the whole building and so much was within a short sandy walk from the room. What a perfect place to spend our 25th anniversary!
Haven't stayed in the Hotel main building since, but have stayed in other properties owned by the same people, as well as a number of condos in the same area. The place is getting too popular, but at least it's all very low density. Far from the crowds in Cancun.
Fiesta Americana Coral Beach. 18 times maybe??? tim
Next visit--a split trip, we stayed at the Royal Caribbean and also at Xaman-Ha condos in Playa and did that for a few trips. We also stayed at the Royal Mayan, Club Internacional, and the Nautibeach condos on Isla a few days.

I can't believe the price. And I was going to say I can't believe how YOUNG you were back then with your dark hair! You mean to say all the time I thought you were blond but you are actually grey????

Nope -- the dark hair is just from the way the picture was taken. I've always been a blonde, and someday when most people turn grey I'll turn white in the tradition of my family. The cool thing is that most members of my family keep their hair all the way to the grave!!!
A week there now would be $1357.80 with no airfare. So if you add airfare You would be well over $2000, or over $1000 for the week per person (not AI). That means the price has gone up at more than twice the rate of inflation.
Our first trip was in 1994. Don't remember the price but we didn't go AI--but the newbies we were we ate most of our meals at the Kukulakan(sp) mall behind us in the food court with the exception of Spash! seafood in the mall and Burger King once then we ate at our hotel one night, they only had the 1 outdoor restaurant and no bars really.
We were in awe of our view of that ocean! That's where we became hooked ----forever! Been to Cancun 11 times now.

but Maggie had light hair when she was younger and it still came up looking dark in some pictures, so I know what you mean! Definitely cool that your family keeps their hair--mine also! Mom has a thick head of hair at 82 and my father still has his at 86!!!

I've often gotten a two-bedroom for $1000 a week or a little over that (depending on what complex and what season) so if you split the price with someone else, you really make out!
Fran in NY
was something like $627.50 each for the 3 of us.

Doris, I thought you were going down before 1999, in fact I thought we had known you longer than that. See what happens when you become friends with someoene? It soon feels like you'f always known them.
I can't wait until your 2008 trip so I can read your trip report. The trip reports you write are some of the best!!!
First trip we stayed at Hotel America downtown, that was either 1989 or 1990 not sure. We have also stayed at:
Cancun Palace
Cancun Playa
Omni - 3 times
Sheraton Towers - suite (NICE)
Krystal
Melia Turquesa
Westin Regina
Presidente
After about 7 years of staying in Cancun and we got older and the partying was less important, we started staying along the Riviera Maya, Cozumel, and Isla.
Hotel America now called Oasis America
