greetings & a self-serving question
Playa Maya 12/19/03 20:15

Hello to everyone on the forum,

I must say I'm not comfortable at all in the role of newbie, but the truth is that this is the first time I've posted on this forum. I think Laura the Mapchick told me about it or sent me the link some time ago but I'm only now just getting around to checking it out.

Anyway, my self-serving question (I cannot help but ask) is why there don't appear to be any postings mentioning my place on this forum. We've generated a number of comments on other forums in our short history, but I didn't find anything on a cursory browse through the hotel listings or a quick search in the archives, so just wonderin'. Is this forum more focused on Cancun or other parts of the Riviera Maya besides PDC?

Thanks in advance for help to the newbie! :C) Cool

Let's make a deal!!! I'll be the "CARM Secret Guest!"
bandman 12/20/03 05:43

I've been around this and other boards for several years now, and many of the people here know me as a guy who always makes an attempt to speak the truth. If you have read any of my trip reports in the past, you know I tell the good, the bad, and the ugly.

How about you setting me and my family up with a complimentary 7-night vacation this coming summer, and in return I'll come pack and write up a monster of a trip report about Playa Maya. I'll give every detail (good or bad) about your resort, from the eyes of a long time regular! You would have your very own Playa Maya Expert right here on this board!

I hated to even suggest this idea, but I figure that sooner or later somenone would come up with it and post it!

Hey Tim, this sounds like a good job for me! I'll be the "CARM Secret Guest" and I'll spend time at each hotel in CARM, then come home and write a review on each of them! You start setting up my stays (no more than 7-10 days at at time), and I'll just make my work schedule at my new job adjust to my trips to CARM. You gotta have priorities in life, and I'll make all these FREE TRIPS to CARM #1 on my list!

We could call this "Notes from the Bandman"! I really like the way that sounds! Let's get this idea in motion ASAP!!!

works for me

hola Steve. maybe you need to advertise on this Site. :C) Cool it's ben my experience that this Site is half Cancun oriented and half Riviera Maya (including PDC) oriented. why your hotel has not been talked about here, i really don't know. tim

thanks for your responses
Playa Maya 12/20/03 14:11

Well after just losing my previous more elaborate response when this site and my copy of Safari decided that maybe they didn't like each other so much after all, I'll make this one shorter and sweeter.

Basically, thanks, especially for not attaching the newbie. Some sites can be pretty bad, you know, and I took a risk with that admittedly self-serving question. Also thanks to Bandman for the intriguing suggestion, but I think we'll probably save the money and hope for a future guest to post somehting here, or perhaps for any former guests lurking out there to speak up someday. That should be a bit more authentic and reliable (no offense intended at all) than the reaction of someone who got a free week in exchange for putting up a reaction! (Seriously, I don't think we'd offer a free week to Fodors!)

best,

Steve Ryberg, Manager

Uh, that should read "attacking" the newbie, of course, although I similarly thank everyone for not attaching me, as well!

Steve

Can't blame me for asking!!!
bandman 12/20/03 16:05

I'm always looking for a visit from Santa with free tickets to Mexico!!! We'll be sure to check you out on our next visit to Mexico. I went to a site about your hotel and it looks nice!

fran in ny 12/21/03 05:58

It looks very nice, so I'm sure once people are aware of it and a few stay there, you will see lots of mentions in your report via trip reports!

Beautitful place!

Fran in NY

free week?
john from nsb 12/21/03 08:06

what FREE week might THAT be? :C) Cool

HOWEVER--wouldn't it be
john from nsb 12/21/03 08:08

better for him to advertise his property on this site so that people find out about it more quickly?

i would think so. 8) Glasses

Re: Hi Steve!
Laura Map Chick 12/21/03 19:48

I'll vouch for Steve and his lovely wife and their very nice hotel on the beach in Playa!
We stayed at Playa Maya last summer, we were only going to stay a day or two and then try another new place, but we were so comfortable there, that we stayed! :) Smile
Anyone have any questions about Playa Maya, I'd be happy to help.

I would hope not! :C) Cool

Playa Maya 12/21/03 20:30

Thanks Laura! Should've thought that you had actually stayed here. Perry's already a return guest, too! (And incidentally, Mr. Murphy did come by our place to pick up his map the other day, so that worked out just fine.)

Thanks to Fran, too, for the nice comments. Actually, we have lots of trip reports and comments on other sites, we just don't have them here, thus my original question.

Now another question: does John NSB work for this forum? :C) Cool :C) Cool :C) Cool

Steve

we try and try and try to get MapChick to do trip reports
Cbeach1 12/22/03 08:42

sigh :) Smile to be fiar, sometimes she does. but that mapa business keeps her pretty busy. :) Smile

John is one of many Regs here. i'm the chief gofer. :D Big Grin tim

Hola Steve!
Kathryn in MN 12/23/03 20:56

Although I've not stayed there (wanted to last week, but with Bruce's injuries, we decided to stay put on Isla Mujeres for the whole week), I have toured the property and had dinner there. A beautiful property - right on the beach in PDC - food and service were great.

I know others that have stayed there. I've not heard a complaint about Playa Maya from anyone, and I myself was impressed. Hopefully I'll get to stay a night or two my next trip down, and then I could give more detailed information.

FYI - this board has LOTS more info than PDC - posts here range from Cancun to Isla to PM to PDC to Akumal and Tulum. Also, many who post here regularly have their favorite spots and/or own condos, etc. A bunch of great people - I even got to meet several of them last summer at a chatters get together in MSP. Tim and his "crew" here are a NICE bunch of people - the tone of this board is almost always positive - without a lot of the garbage that goes on with many boards.

gracias
