i first was on the original Cancun Chatboard 8/96. at that time Fiero, bandman, Lee, Don, tbear, RonC, Mike, Jon, LauraMC, JimG, Mic and i'm sure i've missed some, were also on. and they still post here. by 8/97, that board got to be really nasty. to the point there was more fighting and hatefulness going on than helping. sooooo, at one of the 1st Cancun Get Togethers Mic of RaM was encouraged to start one herself. tbc.... tim
thus All About Cancun was born. it was a fledgling site at first. in fact Someone once bugged Mic about the fact that there were no newbies to help. well, it takes time to get listed with Search Engines but before to long, All About Cancun raced to the top of the charts. along the way, many new people joined and many still hang around. it was here that many of us solidified our online friendship. sponsored Get Togethers not only in Cancun, but in the States as well. while we helped people, we shared laughter, joy, sorrow, good times and bad and in a very real sense became a familia.
in summer of 98 however, a dark cloud hung over us. Rich of RaM had a series of heart attacks after being taken to Dr. Mike's office. Summer who happened to be in Cancun at the time, and happened to be staying at the RaM apartment, and who happened to be a heck of a Good Nurse helped Dr. Mike pull Rich through. due to the severity of the damage to his heart, Rich had to be transported to the States for treatment. never to return to Cancun where they had moved 2 years previously.
All About Cancun was sold to RaM's partners in Cancun Internet Marketing. unfortunately, they did not have the webmaster skills of Mic and while they did hire a Webmaster, the site had problemas and died August 99. Wes, who was one of the AAC regs, was able to put together a board in order for us Regs to keep together. which was a wonderful thing to do. however, i missed AAC and it's helpfulness to newbies. so, i, with Mic's help, started trying to contact the new owners of AAC in order to purchase the site. but i was unable to reach them. so in late November, Mic suggested doing my own site with her as the Webmaster! thus this site, Cancun and the Riviera Maya, was born! while we had some growing pains, and still do, the site hit the ground running with the HUGE help of the Regs! it took a year and a half, but now CARM and you are the #1 site about the Riviera Maya. Gracias and Congrats! :-)
