Hello,
I am a college student at the U. of WA, in Seattle,WA. I am writing a research brief for my undergraduate communications class and am interested in communication between American or Canadian expats and the Mexican people they interact with, and the perceptions of that communication. I would love to hear from anyone that could give me more information. I have had some really good responses from people, but I made up a questionnaire to try to make it a little more organized. It is:
1.) Do you reside at least 6 mos. of the year in Mexico?
2.) Do you consider yourself an expatriate?
3.) Please list as many reasons as you can for your decision to move to Mexico.
4.) What area of Mexico do you reside?
5.) Have you also traveled extensively in Mexico? If so, do you find there are differences in communication with Mexican natives regionally. Please list the differences you notice by region.
6.) Do you speak Spanish?
7.) Do you use Spanish at all times when communicating with Mexican people?
8.) If you use both English and Spanish while communicating with Mexican people do you find there is a difference in communication outside of the use of the language being spoken? Please describe.
9.) How often do you interact with Mexican people?
10.) How would you characterize the majority of the relationships you have with Mexican people? For example: as friends, employee/employer, business transactions, etc.
11.) What is your general opinion of your communication with Mexican people?
12.) How would you describe the character of the responses and reactions of the Mexican people you communicate with? For instance, do they change their own communication style with you where they would not in a comparable relationship with another Mexican?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
