Buildings and Grounds
The guest rooms are located in 4 separate building areas, noted as building 0, 1, 2, and 3 see the resort map I have enclosed. The resort info states that all rooms have a view of the ocean from your balcony. This may be true or not, I personally have my doubts, especially with the construction on going next to building 3. I should say at this point we were in building 3 and never heard any construction noise in our room. We did hear some noise ( sounded like light hammering for about 2 hours each of the last two days while on the beach ). It appears that the major structural construction is completed and they are working on the inside of the sister resort.
As you can see from the second diagram that the pool is enormous, it stretches across the back of the resort and has many secluded areas. There are lots of shallow area where you can put your lounge chair into the pool and deeper areas to stand up or swim. Where are no areas to dive in this pool. There is a dive pool (H) on there map. The pool has 4 Jacuzzi pools each able to hold about 20 people, I never saw more than 4 in any one. They are the little circle areas just beyond the bottom on buildings 1 & 2, but still connected to the main pool. Pool shallow areas are 4 to 6 inches deep with the deep areas about 3 ½ to 4 feet deep.
There is also a shallow pool area just below the game room (J) which used to be the kids area, before the resort became adults only. Building J has some game tables in it and is open during the day time, it is also air conditioned.
Building (K) is the Mundaca restaurant it is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the international dinner. I will cover more on this later in the report.
The last building on the grounds is (I ) which is a large pagoda shaped thatch roof building housing the pool bar and pool eating area.
Beyond the pool area are steps leading down to the beach/lagoon area.
There are also 2 other bars in the pool/beach area that are open from 12 AM to 5 PM.
The Room
We were in building 3 on the inside, our room was large and very nice with one small exception. I suspect all the rooms were almost the same size, although all the patios were not, it depended on the building shape and room location.
Entering the room there was the closet with 10 to 12 hangers, and a safe for your valuables, you get the lock at the front desk. It had an upper shelve, ours had an extra pillow.
The bathroom was off to the left with a sink area and a door between it and the toilet/shower area. The sink area had a coffee maker with delicious Mexican coffee and coffee creamer, sugar, etc. and 2 cups. There were 4 warm bottles of water there to use to brush your teeth with, cold water was in the frig. There was a Oster 1500 hair dryer on the wall, a dish with soap, mouth wash, body lotion, sewing kit, shower cap, shoe shine pad. The area had a large mirror and rail for two hand towels and 2 wash cloths on the counter and a Kleenex dispenser. We had a no smoking room, but it still had a ash tray on the counter. There was a full length mirror behind the door. The door lead to the toilet/shower area which had a huge glass shower area.
The shower had a seating area large enough to two and a indented area for soap, shampoo and other bath items. The hotel had a bar of soap and small bottle of shampoo there. There was a towel rack just outside with two large towels.
Our room had a king size bed against the bathroom wall, with a glass sliding door across the room from that, the Jacuzzi was next to one wall and the patio door section that did not slide open. Beside the closet area was the wall section in which was the small refrigerator, desk, TV table, and 3 drawers for clothes.
The refrigerator was set on low, and I immediately changed the dial to high cool, as was recommended in one of the reports I read about the resort. Our frig. had 5 bottles of water, 4 reg Pepsi's, 2 diet Pepsi's, 2 diet 7 Up's, 2 apple drinks, 2 orange drinks, and 6 cans of Dos Equis XX beer. Small section for a desk and an area for the TV just above the 3 small drawers. Like I said there was only one small drawback to the room, after my wife filled the drawers with her clothes I had to put mine on the floor and under the two end tables on each side of the king bed. One end table held the alarm clock, we lost electricity about once or twice a day, one time for almost a minute. The other end table had the room phone on it. There was a desk type table and chair next to the 3 drawer section.
Speaking of the refrigerator, reminded me of the air conditioner in the room. I like a cold room and my wife likes if warmer. Well she had trouble getting her choice, if this resort ran as well as our air conditioner it would have been a 10 star place. It was easy to get the room to 65 or colder, just leave the air on. To make it comfortable for my wife we had to turn the system to off before 9 PM and leave it off all night. I would just turn on the overhead fan and that kept me cool. The control had a temperature control and setting of high, off, med, and low. Even at the lowest setting it kept the room very cool.
The Jacuzzi was great, two steps and hand rail helped you get in, just big enough for two to stretch out and enjoy. Make sure you fill it 2 inches above the highest jet before turning on the power. We took 5 small candles to put around the side and turned the lights out, make sure the curtains are out of the way. We put two in the drink glasses from the sink as not to cause a problem and the two at the bed end in the sink soap dish... it was great! They supply you 2 large towels just for the Jacuzzi, which we took to the beach some days.
There was a ice bucket and two glasses on the desk area also, all the ice machines are on the second floor and we were on the third, so we did not use them.
The room patio was a nice size, we had 2 plastic yard chairs and a small plastic stool to put our drinks on. There was a hammock strung across the patio which we never used although we used the patio almost every day.
TV, I mention the TV last because we did not watch it much. I would check the temp back home every few days, because they were in a heat wave. We are from South Texas and the temp was in the 100's while we were gone. The temp at the resort was around 91 degrees with a gentle 10 to 12 mile breeze off the ocean, it was heaven. The satellite TV had several Mexican and international channels plus the major networks, and HBO. Check out the channel on the other Palace Resorts, note that the Moon Palace never shows the beach area, talk to some of the people who were there and you'll find out why.
