Gran Royal Solaris (GR SOLARIS) day 2 - report

Being from Louisiana we are chuckling at the people here who are nervous about Tropical Storm Dolly. We assume that they are going to serve meals as usual tomorrow, and on Tuesday we will return to normal. This is nothing bit a big thunderstorm. They have passed out notes to the guests to keep windows and hurricane curtains closed just in case. We will close these curtains, but in reality they should not have said anything because it got some of the guests nervous for no reason. If you have never been through a tropical storm before some people tend to think that what is coming will be like Hurricane Katrina.

How can I describe how great today was? Well, first of all, I can’t remember the last time I awoke to a clock that read past 8:00 AM!!! This morning I slept until 8:30, which for me is sleeping late

We walked around the resort in kind of a way of getting to know the resort. This place is small enough to get to know it in a couple of days. At 11:45 we all went to the lobby to take a cruise around the lagoon area of Cancun. It was fabulous, especially the Mariachi band that was wonderful.

When we got back they were clearing the pool due to the onslaught of tropical storm Dolly. At that time the three people (Joni, Heather, and I) joined a three nice young men from Pennsylvania in the pool. We had the entire pool and the pool bar to ourselves and we had a grand time.

Dinner tonight was at the Marco Polo restaurant for their French night. Each night sees changes in the Marco Polo menu and it was French for tonight. To say the least it was fantastic! It really reminded me of the food we got on the several cruises we have been on. Heather and Joni each got filet mignon, and Dave had half orders of Filet Mignon and Au Coq Au Vin! Wow!!! It was a great meal!

We really like this resort. The room is too small, but you don't spend a lot of time in your room. This is a great place!!!

By the way, Tropical Storm Dolly came in last night, and the end of the storm is here now. This hotel is equipped with hurricane curtains on the outside of every room. I have never seen the ones like they have here. They won’t stop a huge blow, but they are great for stopping flying debris in a small storm. I have to give them credit, they did a good job in planning for storms here, and they definitely have a good storm plan in place. Everyone knew exactly what to do yesterday and the storm preparation was done without interfering with the fun of the guests. After thinking about it a little while, this was a great drill for the employees here for when a big storm is coming.
